[Show Review] Get Up Close with JOOYOUNG and his Soothing Vocals

A dimly lit atmosphere with smoke from an incense stick in the Esplanade Annexe Studio on 30 May 2024 – the show was about to get real intimate with fans gathering closer to the stage as they anticipate Jooyoung’s entrance.

Known for his soothing and swoon worthy vocals, Jooyoung blessed the venue with songs from his latest album Sphere which, he shared, took him 4 years to complete.

Jooyoung shared that Misfits’ Sunday was created as he had worked on the album with six of his friends on Sundays who were people “working in the society” (interpretation: working in various jobs) and that they had “눈치” (interpretation: emotional intelligence). Listening closer to the lyrics, it seems like it was a period of time that the friends gathered to challenge themselves while they were still young.

Another song which Jooyoung delved into was My Soles Worn Out which he had written to look back on the difficulties that he had experienced in Starship where he had “lost (his) butterflies” and that “(his) soles (had) worn out” from running endlessly to reach something that he had lost excitement for.

Ending on a lighter note, Jooyoung performed encore songs Daydream and Dive while getting closer to the audience pen and interacting with the fans at the front row. He expressed how much he loved the energy in the studio and would love to come back to Singapore to perform.

Jooyoung’s next and final stop in his World Tour will be in Bangkok on 9 June 2024.
