Korean singer and actor, Onew, also known as the leader of Korean boy band SHINee was in town last weekend for the annual Star Awards 2024 in Singapore. Star Awards is an awards ceremony where Mediacorp recognizes entertainers for outstanding performances of the year in various categories such as drama, radio and variety shows.

Prior to the awards ceremony, Onew graced the Walk of Fame red carpet outside the MediaCorp theatre. The star took the time to greet his fans who eagerly anticipated his arrival , even taking a moment to sign an autograph for a lucky fan.

The singer, who has been on a long hiatus, expressed his happiness at seeing so many people waiting and supporting him. Onew’s appearance marked a significant moment for Jjingus as they have not seen him in public for quite some time. When asked about the possibility of continuing his acting career, Onew answered that he is open to new opportunities and hopes to show a good side of himself through acting.

Onew also participated in a live interview backstage and was asked a few questions by our local celebrity hosts. Here are some of the questions and his responses:

• How do you feel about being here in Singapore?
  Onew replied, “From the first time I arrived, there was a feeling of tension and nervousness that I can’t express. But I slowly got used to it, and when I think of the artists receiving their awards, I feel happy.”
  
• Did you make any special preparations for the Star Awards?
  “As it’s a drama awards show, and I have made an appearance in the drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’, I have prepared a song named ‘You’re my everything'”.
  
• What local delicacies have you tried in Singapore?
  He had chicken rice and laksa, and as he likes spicy food, he said that he would like to try the pepper crab.
  
• What are some of the new projects you are planning moving forward?
  Onew revealed that he is currently preparing to release a new album and is also preparing for stages to connect with his fans.

During the award ceremony, Onew appeared as a guest presenter for the Rising Star Award. He also performed two songs – “You Are My Everything”, a track from the OST of the drama “Descendants of the Sun”, and “Your Scent”, a track from his solo album “Voice”.

Following his move to Griffin Entertainment, Onew is scheduled to host a fan meeting on May 18th in South Korea. In addition, SHINee, the popular South Korean boy band, will perform an encore concert from May 24th-26th. This performance has generated significant anticipation among their fans as it marks the reunion of the SHINee members on stage.
